I’m a fire fighter. My unit was called out to a landslide just outside town one stormy afternoon. When we arrived half the hillside had slid, taking five houses with it and leaving 3 perched precariously. I ran up the hill with 2 others to evacuate the house with half its foundation exposed, but stopped dead at the front door. Something told me, in that moment, that if I cross the threshold everything would collapse. We coaxed the family’s dog out with someone’s lunch. Nothing happened, but to this day I swear it was a message directly from God.
